New York=Adventure Island

The greatest adventure of my life thus far has, of course, been my life-altering move to New York City. It was comprised of smaller, individual events from the initial shock and awe of arriving in New York, to securing an apartment, to physically moving all my worldly possessions halfway across the country. After the move, though, I can happily say that many more adventures have come to follow, and are still a persistent aspect of my life.

New York offers things that no place in the world offers. It challenges a person spiritually, financially, physically, and mentally. There really is no place else like it. Every new day living here presents a new challenge, a new opportunity, a new venture or adventure. Everyday there are new people to meet, new food and drink to consume, new items to acquire. There are new concepts to be learned, new experiences to be had, and new stones to be turned. Everyday is a new opportunity to investigate deeper into what makes life [in New York] so great!

Today's adventure started of as an innocent excursion to find a rumored miniature golf course, and became a journey through uncharted territory to claim new land in the name of my enjoyment. It developed into one of greatest solitary expeditions I've ever had.

Over the course of the day, I crossed bridges (multiple), I passed through weeds and brush, I faced death, I became one with nature, and I found the mini golf course. I trekked for miles unprecedented and saw some of the most beautiful scenery (both natural and man-made). I sat down only once.

It became one of the most interesting and coolest excursions I've been out on. There kept being more and more to see. It was unreal.

Living in New York, it can be pretty hard to find a location where you are not surrounded by people. And it's getting harder and harder. But it is possible to feel secluded. There are places accessible to the public that allow that to happen. Today, I found "I Am Legend"-type isolation.

It occurred to me several times over the course of the day that nobody in the world knew where I was. This was especially relevant at the times when I realized I may have been in mortal danger if I didn't step carefully.

Being isolated in such a great space also gave me opportunity to mull over the possibilities, if I saw fit, to be the initiator of hedonistic crime or strikingly passionate romance at some point in the future.

By the end of my expedition, I was exhausted, and couldn't think of anything more than drinking a beer and writing about it, though, no matter how I phrase it, I could not do justice to my own personal experience.

During my quest, I reconfirmed the fact that New York is the greatest city in the world. While every city provides its own unique taste and spin on things and offers it own great adventures, I see New York with limitless potential. It's no wonder why people who live here never leave.
